| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | Brad Armstrong can be so imaginative in his movies, a trait much on display here. I love the concept here: gunned down during an aborted robbery, Jessica Drake is having emergency, life-saving surgery. As she hovers between life and death, her spirit travels through a surreal underworld, where her experiences are representative of the things happening to her body on the operating table. As with so many of Armstrong's films, it looks great: color, costume, art and set design are ultrarich, the visual feast expertly fleshing out characters and situations. And, the movie is filled with stunning images -- so many are just beautiful and stunning, especially in the extended g/g scene with Ms. Drake and Capri Cavalli, but, really, the striking visuals appear throughout. Mr. Armstrong has a very fine eye for striking imagery. The cast was fine. For me, veteran Jessica Drake is one of the best performers in the business today (in spite of some occasionally less persuasive reading of lines) and Steven St. Croix was outstanding as her boyfriend -- no caveats at all. The rest of the cast were adequate to good. (By the way, I don't think I had ever seen Asphyxia Noir before; sure did like her very sexy tits!) And yet, somehow it seemed a bit too contrived, and didn't completely gel for me. Oh, I enjoyed it, but I was expecting something better, and came away slightly disappointed that it didn't grab me more. And, as with the movie as a whole, so also the sex scenes: while all are good, they generally didn't really engage me (and several are extraneous scenes, just padding to the plot). Perhaps I just wasn't in a very sex-receptive mood that day, as I can't identify anything specifically wrong with them; they just didn't leave me panting. Still, by all means watch this movie. Despite my petty quibbling, it has much to enjoy and many images that will stay with me. And, I'm always ready to watch Ms. Drake! |

| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | A series of short stories supposedly involving strong emotions, though some don't quite crest that intensely emotional peak. Made by Paul Thomas, this film exhibits the fine craftsmanship one expects from him. The stories aren't elaborate, but some manage to convey a lot with a little, and they do a good job of setting the sex in a meaningful context. As for the sex, it was mostly good, although -- personal taste here -- there is way too much silicone for me, kind of ruining several scenes. The up and down nature of the film is nicely demonstrated in the first story. A man (Dick Smothers) is accompanying his brother's fiancee (Karina) to a bridal shop where she is getting fitted for her wedding dress. As he waits, he is in an agony of indecision (revealed in his voiced over thoughts), wanting to tell her how desperately he loves her, but also not wanting to hurt the brother whom he also loves. To further complicate things, the fiancee confesses to her sister that she loves her future husband's brother. Ultimately, Smothers starts getting frisky with the shop's manager (Natalia Wood) when the fiancee walks in on them. Embarrassed, she backs out of the room while stumbling over apologies. Once outside, she stops and thinks things over, makes a decision, and strips off her clothes before marching back in and asking if she can join them. A nice threesome ensues. The two principals are convincing, the sex scene is decent. But, in the middle, the shop manager Wood delivers a long monologue on love that is a real clunker, totally leaden, that just goes thud, thud, thud. Not convincingly delivered, not believable from the character, it kills the momentum. And so on. There is a nice variety to the scenes and an overall competence to the movie that make it worth a look. Forbidden Affairs: My Wife's Sister In this little slice-of-life drama, Stephen St. Croix is married to India Summer. India's sister, Remy LaCroix, is coming to stay with them a while after breaking up with her latest boyfriend. Stephen isn't happy, as the sister has a pattern of coming by occasionally to sponge off of them. As it later comes out, though, his real problem is that he and Remy have a past, and in fact he winds up screwing her. End of story. The characters are well played, especially by the always excellent St. Croix, and the emotions feel real. But, there is pretty much only enough depth here for a short story, not nearly sufficient to carry a full, two hour feature. Basically, the story is malnourished because the overwhelming bulk of film time is devoted to the sex. So, that is where the movie succeeds or fails. And there is where I have a split-personality reaction. Of the four sex scenes, three I mostly skipped. Oh, the sex was generally okay, and I liked the fact that they took the time to let each scene develop slowly, with lots of gentle build up. But, I'm afraid the scenes were WAAAAAAAY too long, just fucking interminable -- I wound up getting deathly bored. The first scene was a flashback to Remy and her boyfriend, and lasted nearly a half an hour. Pleasant enough sex, but dull in its endlessness; I first started fast forwarding through bits of it, but eventually just zipped to the end. At a third of the length, it would have fine, but it long outstayed its welcome. The third scene was completely extraneous, involving characters having nothing to do with the story, dropped in for no reason other than padding, and it never twigged my interest; pointless and unexciting. The fourth scene, in which St. Croix finally screws sister-in-law LaCroix, has moments where the embers almost burst into flame, but then settles back into cold ashes and can't overcome the tedium of excessive, repetitive length. Ah, but that leaves the second scene, between St. Croix and Summer, and this is flat out one of the hottest sex scenes I have ever encountered. Yes, it's long, but my interest never flagged. It helps that I think India Summer is unbearably sexy, with a body that's pure perfection, but even more is the incredible chemistry between the two of them. They are both great performers who make this scene sizzle with passion. Starting slowly, as he climbs into bed with her already falling asleep, St. Croix (turned on from seeing sis-in-law in her undies) starts nuzzling his wife's ear, neck, ever so slowly caressing her. Soon, he is lightly fingering her pussy as India responds -- she might be acting, but it sure looks like she is really into this, face flushed, body quivering. He slides down to lick her pussy until she explodes. And from there, the heat and passion just keep growing and growing -- stunning! So, I recommend this for that one sex scene. The rest is fine if you like drowning in relentlessly overlong sex. |

| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | In this dark, 1985 movie, R. Bolla is the head of a large company with an impressive incentive plan: his secretary (the wonderful Tish Ambrose) and three other company whores (Amber Lynn, Rachel Ashley, and Sheri St Clair) are given as rewards to top-producing employees and to important clients. Tish longs for relief from her loneliness, with her only happiness being a long-term correspondence with a man (Eric Edwards) she has never met, but who served in Vietnam with her now-dead brother. But, she and the other women are ensnared in a repressive and humiliating confinement with the company. Eventually, Amber Lynn and Tish try to break free from their trap, leading to a violent resolution. I always loved Tish Ambrose, an excellent performer whom I find sexy as hell. She was in a load of movies back in the day, usually in a supporting role, but she did play a few leading characters and made them all stand out. She was so believable here in her desperation, trapped in a hopeless position, used ruthlessly by Bolla and his brutal enforcer, Hershel Savage. I understand that it was Sheri St Clair who won several acting awards for her role in the film, but for me, Ms. Ambrose was the canvas, and provided the depth, before which the others played. A decent enough plot, rich characters, good sex well integrated into the story, and competent film making make this highly recommended for fans of the era. If one can believe IAFD (not always a credible source), the run time of the version I saw was about 10 minutes short. I'm not sure what might have been cut, but for the most part the film felt continuous. There was one jarring effect: Ms. St Clair's character, who starts off as a smart-mouthed whore, suddenly becomes apparently brain damaged midway through the movie. Anyone know if something was chopped out that would explain this? (I can make an easy conjecture of when and why it would have happened.) Ladies Night In this 1980 effort, Annette Haven's husband is too wrapped up watching football to pay her any attention. Hello? A volcano could erupt in my living room and I wouldn't be distracted from Annette Haven, so this yokel is a real moron. Anyway, she and two other sports widows, Lisa DeLeeuw and Nicole Black, take refuge in a male strip club, where each gets her ashes hauled. Could have been amusing, but really doesn't succeed. Plus, most of the sex is tepid at best, and often very poorly displayed. (And, Paul Thomas, who often plays insufferably arrogant, pompous sleazes, really outdoes himself here, but his sex scene with Ms. Haven is nice enough.) Some very fine ladies, Annette and Nicole especially, provide lots of beauty, but not enough to recommend this. |
| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | Angel is an innocent girl at a convent school, studying a Bible chapter (of the A begat B who begat C who begat... type) and wondering what "begat" means. She falls asleep, and in her dreams is taken to a number of places for her education in debauchery, in which she has a variety of sexual experiences. The sex is hot and Angel is perfect in the role of the wide-eyed innocent. She always was a bit too young looking for my taste, but is perfectly cast here (and her figure, lovely beyond words, is so beautifully displayed throughout). It is all very hot. While most of the sex with Angel isn't exactly rape, it is all more or less imposed on her, but she isn't really resisting -- she's along for the ride. There is one scene with a high ick factor: a necrophilia scene. She dreams she is lying dead in a casket when the undertaker lifts her out to, uh, well you know. After a while the corpse does become animated and one wonders in the dream if it is just an undertaker or the devil coming to claim her (I vote for option 2), but at any rate the necrophilia angle is offputting. Still, if you are interested in a tale of an innocent's journey into depravity, it's well worth watching. (Besides, it all never happened!) |
| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | In this 1975 film, Angela (Jennifer Jordan) is desperately in love with her brother Peter (Eric Edwards), who is studying for the priesthood. One rainy day, she succeeds in seducing him, but then is violently rejected. Angela becomes a very troubled woman: when he later returns as the town's priest, she is tormented by sexual dreams about him. Furthermore, she has a powerful sexual effect on people around her, inflaming them to uncontrolled lust -- she is beset (sometimes brutally) by a variety of people unable to resist her unconscious spell. Her brother, the priest, is equally tormented. He, too, lusts for her. He hears of her sexual events through the confessions of the people using her. We have a scene of him flagellating himself, another consulting in despair with an older clergyman. Ms. Jordan is mesmerizing as Angela. She manages to be almost innocent and utterly primal in a way that is totally convincing. Mr. Edwards is completely believable as the sexually confused priest (not too redundant). While there are a few things in the movie I didn't understand, it was a fascinating mix of lust, religion, and love. Definitely worth watching. Snow White XXX Okay, let's start with the bad and get it out of the way: the sex scenes are too long for my taste and delay the flow of the story too much. But, the sex is relevant and mostly hot. Now to the best part: Holy shit, Jessica Drake is incredible! Not a rare reaction for me; I feel that for about the last decade she has been as good as it gets among female porn stars. But, she is simply amazing as the Evil Queen. She completely inhabits the role -- every look, every word and every silence in between are compelling (and chilling). And, her sexual performance is as hot as ever, although I have one quibble here. She had two consecutive sex scenes (with two different guys) that were pretty much interchangeable. Yes, she did anal in one and not the other, but the second scene felt like a rerun of the first. (After these two scenes, the next was also Jessica, but in a fine g/g with Riley Steele that definitely broke the pattern). In many ways, the plot was short cut (for example, from eating the poisoned apple -- and having sex with the evil queen in the prison of her own mind -- suddenly the Prince is there kissing away the magic spell without any sense of time lapse spent in slumber). But, the production values are solid, the sex is good, and Jessica Drake is worth the price of admission -- again. |

| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | This excellent 1974 film with Harry Reems, Jennifer Jordan, and one-film-wonder Shawn Harris (pity, that, she has a rockin' body!) features fine acting from all. Reems is a psychiatrist treating a patient (Harris) who is virtually catatonic. She slowly begins to open up, eventually revealing a second personality lurking inside. Reems is especially good (he has a couple of scenes consulting with another shrink where the conversations feel so natural and funny -- they are the epitome of long-time, respectful colleagues), and Jordan is delightful as his love interest. Harris plays the two sides of her personality very convincingly. The sex could have been okay for the era, but way too much was lost in darkness. Jennifer Jordan's scenes with Reems were quite nice, though; besides a lovely body, she always had such a comfortable, free sexuality about her. |

It seems the producer asked VCA to remaster the tapes, and through a series of unfortunate incidents the masters got lost or stolen. |

| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | This 1972 drama is strictly softcore. There is plenty of simulated sex, but no willies (except for one limp one). Still, the sex is plenty hot enough. Angela Carnon plays a wife unfulfilled in a drab marriage. The husband works too many hours, they are barely managing to support the mortgage and the kids, and all the spark has long since left their lovemaking, if it was ever really there at all. She wants to live the high life, but hubby has neither the money nor the energy to make it possible. Having already tried marriage counseling without success, he suggests one night, in desperation, that they try a swinger's group to see if they can resurrect their passion. While it doesn't seem to work for him, for Angela it is revelatory. She abandons her husband and daughters to go stay with a friend, where she throws herself into a whirlwind nightlife heavily fueled by booze and sex. As her life spirals out of control, her friend urges her on further, driving Angela deeper into debauchery. Eventually, Angela faces the realization that this is no more fulfilling than her marriage (it doesn't help that the guys she meets are less than stellar!), and the movie kind of just grinds to a halt at this point. This is not outstanding movie making, the acting is serviceable at best, and the story a bit cheesy and cliched. Nevertheless, it works well. Angela Carnon is very good as the lead; attractive and sexy without being the sort of porn bombshell who wouldn't be credible in the role, she is appealing and believable as the frustrated wife with tantalizing fantasies of what life might be. After a slow start, I found this an entertaining excursion into early 70s movies. And three to skip: Fairy Tale Stormy Daniels and Eric Masterson move into a new home, which comes with a tiny fairy (Kaylani Lei) in the garden. She bewitches Eric so that he's in a perpetual daze, ignoring his doting wife. Generally bland sex and a very weak story with many annoying aspects, the one saving grace is Stormy -- though I am hardly an objective viewer on that point, as I think she is consistently marvelous. Though oddly, as I have mentioned before, I don't respond to her physically as I do to some other stars, she is such a great performer (sexually and otherwise) and an always charming presence that I seldom fail to be delighted. I enjoyed her in the film, but little else. Secrets of the Velvet Ring Stormy Daniels is the head of a sex club for powerful women. What started off as a small group of ladies getting together in the evening has blossomed into a large group with an official insignia -- a velvet ribbon at the throat. Each meeting of the group sees select women having their fantasies made real. None of the fantasies is terribly interesting and all but one scene found me fast forwarding through much of the generally blah sex (the one exception saw two women getting a massage, which unsurprisingly turned into four-way sex). No plot, sex that didn't engage me, and a toxic level of silicone pollution made this a waste of time for me. Natural Lamporn's Frat House This is sort of a porn riff on movies like Animal House, but without the edge. The movie is soft as are the characters in it. The sex on a mechanical level is okay, but devoid of any heat or passion and often buried in darkness (one of my pet peeves). It at times is mildly entertaining in a harmless way, but hardly worth the time. |
| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | This 1976 Anthony Spinelli film, much as in Spinelli's earlier Seduction of Lyn Carter, tells the story of a woman who hates herself for being seduced, but is incapable of resisting. Vicky Lyon plays a woman who marries a man older than her, which makes him feel insecure. She reassures him, but in spite of her regard for her husband, one suspects this match for her is not a great passion, leaving her ripe for taking. And taken she is, by her husband's 17 year old son, played by Jon Martin. The son is a manipulative prick who seduces his new stepmother for no more reason than that he can. (He certainly isn't lacking for sexual stimulation, as he has a girlfriend who is also completely under his spell.) Given Vicky's turmoil, not surprisingly this can't end well. The principals all do a fine job of acting, and the story sustains a tension that never flags. Most of the sex is very hot, though tinged with enough emotional cruelty to make it uncomfortable to watch. The characters are sketched in broad strokes, but convincingly. All in all, an excellent film. |
| T0MBOne Senior Member 1200 Posts 5/08 | My review for WOMEN IN LOVE/WOMAN IN LOVE is posted plus lagniappe reviews of other Kemal Horulu flicks like BLUE ECSTASY, WHEN SHE WAS BAD, NEVER SLEEP ALONE. While researching some of his flicks on IAFD, I noticed that there were hardly any reviews for these well-crafted films that he made in NYC. I decided on WOMAN IN LOVE for the main review as a good choice for couples also as a fine vehicle for both Laurien Dominque and Vanessa Del Rio. Paul Thomas is also terrific---tb |
| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | This 2012 Brad Armstrong effort is an end-of-the-world movie -- a large asteroid is on a collision course with Earth. The focus is on a small number of ordinary people, some likeable, some less so, and how they face their last days. Not surprisingly, this being porn, most decide to go out with a good last fuck with loved ones or, lacking those, anyone available. The most touching scene is purely non-sexual: a man celebrates 25 years of life together at his wife's graveside in a lovely passage. The sex itself was pretty ordinary. The first two scenes (as so often in Armstrong's films) were purely padding, completely extraneous to the plot, though they weren't at all bad. The rest were all plot-appropriate end-of-the-world sex. While hardly an original story, this is very watchable. The characters are all credible and mostly well played. No big, dramatically explosive moments, but lots of satisfying small ones brought nicely to life. |

| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | This 1981 movie is set at the close of the Civil War. With her husband and son off to war, Georgina Spelvin is trying to run the homestead with her two young daughters (Drea and Ginger), daughter-in-law (Rhonda Jo Petty) and a hired man (Tommy LaRock). Randy West plays a lone soldier coming home who brings the news that hubby and son died in the war. With Rhonda Jo and the hired hand already an item, West beds both daughters before finally wearing down mother Georgina's resistance, and falling himself for her. While not a complex story by any means, the characters are nicely delineated and very well acted (even Randy West, whom I usually don't much care for, did a good job). Some of the sex is bland (see Petty and LaRock), but it all feels very real and natural and much is quite satisfying. Not a stunning film, but a pleasant diversion. |
| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | I have always adored Lesllie Bovee, so spent a lot of time drooling to this 1976 movie. Ms Bovee is a conniving wife who conspires with insurance man John Holmes to kill her husband after taking out a million dollar life insurance policy. Mr Holmes is sleazy here, but Ms Bovee is venomous enough to make him look almost innocent. Though not overly complex, the story is good enough to keep the film moving to the last twist at the end, and the acting from the main characters is at least not embarrassing. The sex, while comparatively brief and typical of the era, is hot enough to entertain, especially (drooling again) when Ms Bovee is involved. Viewers not used to seventies porn might find this a bit tame, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Dirty Pretty Lies Very little happens in this 2007 film. Seriously hot Avy Scott is a romance novelist whose ex-husband is a completely selfish, lying, cheating asshole, and her best friend Haley Paige (whom Avy supported through Haley's own breakup) is one of the husband's many sexual conquests. Badly hurt by him, she is in a deeply depressive, writer's blocked, potentially suicidal state. Pressed by her agent to deliver a promised manuscript, she seems unable to move past her despair until salvaged by a mysterious, dreamscape figure (Justine Joli) representing I'm not sure what. As much as this movie deals with passion, betrayal, and dark depression, much of it has a surprisingly mechanical feel. Avy Scott's delivery of lines (and she's got a lot of them) contibutes a lot to this: she rattles them off at machine gun speed, but they seem disconnected from emotion. Lots of words, little feeling. The movie has two very good sex scenes, both involving Avy (no surprise -- the woman always sizzles), two scenes that are pure padding, having nothing to do with the plot, and most of the scenes wear out their welcome as they start well then run on into tedium. Not bad, but nothing special. |

| mcewan All-Star Member 1294 Posts 8/08 | Cry Wolf - Is what I started out viewing. Marcos Leon I've only seen him in one other film Layout another outstanding film from Paul Thomas and it won numerous AVN Awards including Best Film. Well anyway Marcos Leon plays a former childhood singer and is living off his royalties of being a one shot wonder with his hit song Strawberries and Cream. He's a spoiled brat. Well anyway he goes out to a bar one evening and picks up a lass Monique Alexander who in my opinion is one of the hottest Vivid Contract Starlets ever she is right up there with the original Vivid Contract Starlet Ginger Lynn, Marcos takes Monique back to his mansion which appears to be some where in the San Fernando Valley. The action gets a little rouge here anal sex and drug use are involved. Marcos gets worried what might have taken place between him and Monique, he's thinking things might gotten a little out of hand so he calls his friend Mr Marcus. Mr Marcus is probably the only likable character in the entire movie, he's trying to turn his life around he is a bartender at the bar where Marcos picked up Monique however his drug dealing past comes back to haunt him Steven St. Croix sees to that. Unfortunately during the orgy scene involving Steven St. Croix back at his place my DVD sticks and I have to skip ahead a little bit. This is definitely Paul Thomas at his very best. As far as Paul Thomas Films go my list would be: # 1. The Devil In Miss Jones The New Beginning # 2. Awakening # 3. Heart Of Darkness # 4. Cry Wolf # 5. Bad Wives # 6. Bobby Sox # 7. Layout # 8. Borderline # 9. The Masseuse #10.Bad Wives 2 The New Behind The Green Door - Brooklyn Lee I think was an excellent choice here for the lead role she actually resembles a young Marilyn Chambers (R.I.P.) from her Behind The Door days and looks like she could actually be her daughter. Brooklyn comes into her inheritance from her dead mother and with the help of her deadbeat boyfriend James Deen blows a majority of it. This to leads to where it all began with Brooklyn going Behind The Green Door and it looks like a lot of sex acts where just like they were back in Marilyn's day with a lot of interracial involved and the original film playing on a big flat screen on the wall for the audience to view. The behind the scenes were great with the interview of Johnnie Keys and Marilyn Chambers real life daughter being there as well she is absolutely gorgeous. This DVD does come with the original 1972 Classic Behind The Green Door. Jenna Jameson Is The Masseuse - Jenna Jameson's former real life husband Justin Sterling is the male lead. He has a boring office job there is however a very attractive woman Wendy Devine who works at his office and shows interest in Justin, like inviting him to a movie. Justin's mind is elsewhere and he show's absolutely no interest whatsoever. I guess Justine feels the need for some kind of companionship he goes to a massage parlor and the receptionist there Tina Tyler and goes over what they have to offer whats included, of course he choose the least expensive option. This is where he Jim is introduced to Barbara (Jenna Jameson) the masseuse. Well it seems like Jim (Justin Sterling) was quite satisfied because he continues to make appointments and will only see Barbara. It becomes an obsession with him he even goes as far as following her home after she gets off work. The best thing about purchasing Jenna Jameson Is The Masseuse it includes the original Masseuse never before released on DVD. The Masseuse - Of the Masseuse films I find the original the best. I love the chemistry between Randy Spears and Hyapatia Lee,these two perform in all the sex scenes and the film remains interesting throughout. This one also has somewhat of a happy feel to it where the others don't. This I do believe received Hustler's High Highest and a majority of the time their opinions were correct. The Masseuse was filmed in 1990 when some of the worst porn in history was being produced,a majority of it shot on video. Again I applaud Randy Spears and Hyapatia Lee for the outstanding performances no other performers in the industry could have pulled this one off especially during that time period. The Masseuse 3 - Now I really love this film I originally purchased it on sale at a video store on Santa Monica Blvd and Highland it was across from the Del Taco neither are there in anymore. I also paid big bucks and bought the DVD from AdultDVDMarketPlace and in either version do you ever see Jamie Gillis (R.I.P.) make an on screen appearance and have a sex scene with Katie Gold, all you ever here is his voice on his sons answering machine James Bonn a college student in New York City. The reason I bought this film in the first place is because I'm a huge Melissa Hill fan. A college nerd seeking excitement in his life goes to the last sexually oriented place in Time Square a massage parlor here he meets up with a masseuse Melissa Hill who he falls in love with and wants to run away with.Damn I'd love to find an uncut version of this film. Before relocating back here to Northern Virginia from Los Angeles I actually crossed paths with Paul Thomas it was on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica California he was with a gorgeous blonde probably his wife Anita Rinaldi. |
