| T0MBOne Senior Member 1200 Posts 5/08 | Thanks to my trading partner, I've acquired a bunch of these terrific Joe Sarno flicks from the 70s. I love this flick and with a little effort and imagination a porn director of today could re-make this flick and really have fun with it. The action takes place almost entirely in the interiors of an apartment that becomes a playground for a lovely cousin (Jenny Baxter) visiting NYC. I debated about doing a longer review of Sleepy Head but this flick won out. !!!! 1/2 outta !!!!! ---tb--- |

| BlackSix All-Star Member pornography wasn't sex but fantasies of an impossibly hospitable world 12377 Posts 9/07 | I just order the Cry for Cindy/Touch Me/Act of Confession DVD from Vinegar Syndrome. Cry for Cindy is a good little film and although I have a copy of Act of Confession it is in terrible shape so I'm sure whatever the quality of this release is it will be an improvement. Spinelli is one of my favourite, if not perhaps my favourite xxx directors so it will be good to see this properly finally. |
| T0MBOne Senior Member 1200 Posts 5/08 | Let us know about those Spinelli flicks you mentioned above. I've reviewed some Spinelli flicks but know much less about titles earlier in his career. I recently picked up A PORTRAIT OF SEDUCTION that I thought suffered from a rather clueless lead female performance and I don't think I really watched the whole thing. I had a similar reaction to THE SEDUCTION OF LYNN CARTER---issues with Andrea True. He mostly resolves those female lead problems with later flicks like EASY, THE DANCERS and others. ---T0MB--- |
| T0MBOne Senior Member 1200 Posts 5/08 | In the "Quickie" reviews, I talked about a terrific Bridgette Lahaie flick (directed by Tranbaree) called La Rabateusse where she and her hubby wander the streets of Paris to land a female hook-up. (And do so about 9 or 10 times in maybe 80 minutes) Earlier in this round of viewing, I had seen a Seka flick called Teenage Desires AKA Secrets with essentially the same set-up as Seka and Ken land this young woman for a overly long three-way that concludes that film. These two films were made at about the same time (1977) but the Seka film is incredibly inferior to the French film; so, somewhere along the line, Seka must have received the memo that she needs decent directors in order to make her flicks. Her films improved as a result. Just a side note---Seka's big head of hair in Teenage Desires looks great and it is quite the departure from that short-cropped beached-blonde hairdo that became her trademark later---this might be reason enough to catch it. ---T0MBOne--- |

| CummingLinguist All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | ![]() I was a huge fan of Susaye London when she performed live on Times Square. But this was the first of her film roles that I enjoyed. I don't think of myself as a bondage fan, but after watching an over an hour of porn, the image of her sitting down spreading her legs for the camera brought back such strong memories that I couldn't control myself. As a result I haven't watched the last 10 or 15 minutes, but I imagine they will be great. |
| T0MBOne Senior Member 1200 Posts 5/08 | LOVE SUCKS THEN YOU DIE aka LOVE SUCKS (2004) is a strange Jerome Tanner flick with Haley Paige dead from a drug deal gone awry then she wanders about as an angel-in-training until the finale; Haley looks great in angel and human form and I am sure real-life events caused the shortened title change, LOVER'S LANE (1986?) is recreated in the studio for these darkened encounters between couples in their cars, etc.; kinda quirky and fun, look for Barbara Dare and a few other '80s babes, LUNA CHICK (1996) is a Paul Thomas flick with Raquel Darrien; she falls for Jon Dough, who's married to her therapist...I expected more from this but Raquel gets to strut her stuff in more than a few scenes, MEATBALL is, I believe, pre-DEEP THROAT Damiano and it shows; it's crude and weird with a nutty Harry Reems performance, I really liked the poorly reviewed, THE MISTRESS (1982), with these wonderfully low-lit sex scenes staged by director Jack Remy with uber-lovely Kelly Nichols shining so-to-speak in most of these night-time encounters (solid cast includes Eric Edwards as her boss and lover), all I wrote down for MODEL WIFE (1990) is " Marc Wallice sucks", I really liked Pachard's OUTLAW LADIES (1981) that's a modern tale really only hampered by a poorly-lit finale, the best thing is an office anal encounter between Veronica Hart and John Leslie but the rest of the cast is also terrific, Veronica Hart made some incredible flicks in 1981, which include Costello's PANDORA'S MIRROR---a great porn flick that I might review for the website later, PLAY ME A SEX SONG aka GIRLS ON F STREET (1986) dresses up fellows like Jerry Butler and Randy West to look like New Wavers plus the duo wear some face paint and seem pretty embarrassed by the whole production; thank heavens, Amber Lynn was around to brighten up the place, PLEASE MR. POSTMAN (1981) casts Loni Sanders as a mail lady and she's perfect in this little piece of fluff, POWER OF NICOLE (1984) tries to be leggy Nicole Black's INSATIABLE but an off-screen interviewer weakens this quite a bit so much so that this might remind you of the crappy gonzo discs of today-this is not a comp as Nicole struts hers stuff throughout the flick, PRESCRIPTION FOR PASSION (1984) is a pretty good little feature with shrink Dr. Long getting gals to share their sexual fantasies on his couch, Kristara Barrington is fine here plus I loved a Latina named Gina Valentino, PRINCESS OF THE NIGHT (1990) is a strange horror-porn flick with Jamie Gillis, Madison and Lauren Hall that I did not finish watching but I thought I would mention, PURELY PHYSICAL (1982) is a diamond-in-the-rough with lovely Laura Lazare writing about all the interesting characters she meets working the night shift at a motel then she hooks up with a few for the finale, TIGR and AUNT PEG each have a scene, a solo for Peg, RAW TALENT (1984) is this award-winning but much-edited Jerry Butler starring flick with Jerry struggling to juggle a porn career with a real acting career, a bit hit and miss, RUMP SHAKER #3 is a wretched video that's turning brown with a bunch of chocolate and light brown skin-toned sex performers that deserved better than this awful thing, RUNNING HOT (1992) is a strange biker sex flick about a guy who dies and others think they deserve his chopper; Mike Horner seems out of place in early scenes here but at least some sucking and fucking happens on and around the motor bike for the finale, I didn't watch the whole thing but I thought I would mention another horror-porn flick called SCREAMERS (1999) that's a series of vignettes directed by a fellow named Andre Richard with some comic book animation fx in there; everyone seems to look orange-ish in the many night-time encounters that I started skipping after Gina Ryder's orange-ish bit. More later---T0MBOne |

| Gore Gore Girl Doctor of the Erotic Arts 7238 Posts 1/09 | ![]() I don't think I understood it entirely, but I do know that I loved it. Beautifully remastered by VS, as always. The scene between John Leslie and Leslie Bovee is one of the hottest I have laid my eyes on. Wow. (I can also vouch for HOT LUNCH, if anyone is considering a purchase). |
| john lyons Senior Member Co-founder of Vinegar Syndrome 1188 Posts 1/08 | Note that, at this point, the film entirely dispenses with logic and time and enters a dream like style where things become progressively weirder. Another interesting thing to pay attention to is that the photos surrounding Rosemary's mirror are used in the montage that closes the film. I therefor feel that the entire movie, with the exception of the opening couple scenes, is a weird dream/nightmare from Rosemary's perspective. As is noted in the reviews of Hayes' earlier film, DREAM NO EVIL, BABY ROSEMARY is a bit of an inversion of that movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0130637/reviews?ref_=tt_urv |
| john lyons Senior Member Co-founder of Vinegar Syndrome 1188 Posts 1/08 | It's a solid little XXX social satire that's never exactly clear what it's supposedly satirizing, but it more than makes up for that with some inspired and weird moments, most notably the ridiculous musical sequence that opens the film. |

| BlackSix All-Star Member pornography wasn't sex but fantasies of an impossibly hospitable world 12377 Posts 9/07 | LITTLE SISTERS Wow, this is a real wacked out counterculture artifact/gem. Like a Robert Crumb or Clay Wilson strip come to life, its the fairy tale-like story of two 'girls' who live in the woods with their 'mother' (they're all very close in age). One day the mother goes out and tells the girls to stay away from the woods, they get kidnapped by some bandits/pirates (Terry and the Pirates?) and gang-raped. Having left a note behind saying 'Fuck You Mom, The Dykes' the mother returns after visiting with an older genial gent who looks a lot like an older version of director Alex De Renzy (an uncle, father, grandfather?) and sets off to retrieve her girls from The Dykes. From there we encounter a sect of cultish gay monks, with lots of gay, lesbian and straight orgies and Derek the elf, the moral centre of the film natch'. Eventually the pirates get theirs by being raped in kind by The Dykes. Oh, and there's a brief appearance of three drag queens and a sex scene between a skinny little fella and big young woman set to 'Thus Sprach Zarathustra.' And it ends with a chorus of America the Beautiful. Whoo, trying to describe this one is hard. It is as queer as a three dollar bill, very much part of the free love hippie scene and if it wasn't so full of 'rape' would be right in the groove of modern 'alternative' porn with its BBW, gay sex and general sense of fun, again despite all the rape. Not that it's free of your garden variety counterculture sexism of course but there's enough other stuff mixed in there to keep it interesting and freaky. The score has bits of Miles Davis, what I think is Santana and some early Pink Floyd. Floyd is surprisingly ubiquitous in 70s porn. Be hilarious to know if they ever knew this. The print looks great for something so obscure. Its a real find for me, closer to something like Flaming Creatures or Andy Warhol/Paul Morrissey's films rather than conventional commercial pornography, I can't imagine what the reaction of the raincoat crowd must have been when this was screened. Stunning to think that the man who made this ended up cranking out the soul-destroying empty anal gonzo of Rex Borsky. There's a real metaphor for the death of the 60s dream in all that I think. A big thanks to VS for unearthing this film, I will be purchasing the DVD for my collection. Edited by - BlackSix on 10/17/2015 6:45:31 AM |
| Gore Gore Girl Doctor of the Erotic Arts 7238 Posts 1/09 | Speaking of porn borrowing mainstream stuff, the opening of The New Erotic Adventures of Casanova (available on exploitation.tv and well worth watching) features Donald Sutherland in a street scene. Presumably, this footage was taken from the Fellini version. Crazy. I haven't seen the Fellini film - can anyone confirm? |

| BlackSix All-Star Member pornography wasn't sex but fantasies of an impossibly hospitable world 12377 Posts 9/07 | Revisited this and the print from Vinegar Syndrome looks great as usual. I'm getting spoiled by the quality of their prints. Robin Bougie praised this film in his latest Graphic Thrills 2 and compared it to the films of Scorsese and as overreaching as that may sound I think he's on to something. Obviously nowhere near Marty at his peak but it's not a hundred years away from his grit, New York atmosphere and focus on the character of small time hoodlum nobodies (more Mean Streets than the overblown Departed). Leslie Bovee is gorgeous here, great in her scenes but also when called up to act in her climatic scene with Gillis she more than holds her own. Gillis seems to purposefully keep himself quiet and compressed, so it becomes hard to tell how much his character is driven by fatalism or cynical exploitation, particularly when it comes to the recruitment of Nancy Dare at the end of the film. Ras Kean is also good as the slick kingpin character. He's very handsome and has strong acting chops for porn, I wonder why he didn't do more films? Be great if someone could locate him for a Rialto Report. Even the minor non-sex players are a cut above in the acting department, the thugs harassing Gillis coming across as actually scary not the usual rote, wooden performances we're use to in many exploitation movies. Does anyone know anything about the score here? It is just the right mix of melodrama and pathos for this morality tale that by the last few scenes manages to become more than just that, as the sun sets and Gillis walks over the hill it approaches something close to tragedy. How often can you say that about a porn film? Robin also praises the director Kermal Horlu's Blue Ecstasy, which has much of the same cast and setting. I've yet to see it, hopefully it shows up in VS release schedule sometime soon. |

| mcewan All-Star Member 1294 Posts 8/08 | I'd love to see Talk Dirty To Me, Nothing To Hide, Exposed, Honey Pie etc get restored versions the later 2 I wish would just come out on DVD period. Porn Film Historian The Late Great Jim Holliday (R.I.P.) once referred to Talk Dirty To Me as the 3rd best movie of 1980 Insatiable was # 1. and Exposed was # 2. he later changed his mind and called it a 3 way tie. BlackSix - Richard Pachard in one of the first interviews for AVN in it's first year 1983 would go on to say the scene between him and Tigr ( a.k.a. Chelsea Manchester) took place Richard put on a condom not done in the 80's because she forgot her birth control pills. O/T There was a thread in the Porn Pool section of the forum " Name Your Top 20 Films Of The 80's" sad thing is there were only a few posts. I'd love to see what some of you Feature Film aficionado's would come up with. Myself I left some great titles off this list Outlaw Ladies and Foxtrot immediately come to mind. I think I'm even going make a second list just to bump the thread after all the 80's that's my era !!!! This my favorite thread all my favorite people post here I hope to be more active. |
| T0MBOne Senior Member 1200 Posts 5/08 | I haven't seen LUSTFUL FEELINGS otherwise that would have likely made the quickie cut. I love the NY production and cast (Fox, Bovee, Gillis, Edwards, Astyr and I am forgetting a female) for BLUE ECSTASY but it gets a bit strange with this relationship between the two sisters plus cocaine use really gives it a creepy but realistic edge. The other Horulu flicks I've screened are more coherent. I chose WOMAN IN LOVE aka WOMEN IN LOVE to write-up because I didn't see hardly any other reviews up for that flick; however, some of those other Horulu flicks that I include in the quickie reviews are worthy---tb |
| Cray Member 154 Posts 1/14 | So, yeah, I... bought a DVD of a film I had previously seen and found terrible. Heh. They were apparently going to do a sequel, though that website is the only place I could find where this is brought up. |
| Flash Golden Age Classic 11018 Posts 5/01 | I doubt there was ever a sequel in the works. Christopher Gregory, from what I can find of him, doesn't appear to be very truthful. He claimed Blood Lake made $2 mil and claimed to be working on a mainstream horror with Jessica Simpson (only sign of it I can find outside of his press releases is KFC suing him over the name he was advertising). I can't find any listing for the claimed R rated version, nor does it look like enough non-sex footage to make one more than 5 minutes long. The only other movie I can actually find that he made was one called Vampire Diaries, which seems to have never been released due to a lawsuit from Ball State University. His press releases claim it came out, but the company that supposedly released the DVD I can find no record of, nor any record outside again of his press releases, that it ever did come out. |

| Cray Member 154 Posts 1/14 | That (barely) justified the purchase in my mind, and satiated the masochistic completionist tic that compelled me to look into it again. And yeah, when I tried to beef up the film's IMDB, Wikipedia, etc. pages all of the webpages I could find relating to it and Gregory himself were generic and vague. |
| BlackSix All-Star Member pornography wasn't sex but fantasies of an impossibly hospitable world 12377 Posts 9/07 | Rewatched the very good VS print and the thing that came through for me this time was just how hot the sex scenes are throughout this movie, with almost every one of them featuring John Leslie! He's so relaxed on camera, the dialogue between him and Aunt Peg can make you forget you're watching a porno until she blows him. Leslie and Hilary Summers scene is for once actually worthy of the term 'scorching' with its extended breaks in between mounting scenes of sex. A great combination of dialogue adding to the sex. The threesome between Leslie, Veronica Hart and Samantha Fox (looking particularly yummy her I have to say) is another highlight. And of course Lisa De Leeuw! In terms of noir porn I'd have to give Weston's Expose Me, Lovely the edge when it comes to story but the combo of stellar sex and fun noir story certainly makes Dixie Ray a memorable classic era film that should appeal to those who find too many of the sex scenes from the era less lustful than the gonzo era. |

| BlackSix All-Star Member pornography wasn't sex but fantasies of an impossibly hospitable world 12377 Posts 9/07 | First time I watch a feature I think I'm mainly looking for the story and sometimes the sex come secondary. Of course its best when they're both good but I've enjoyed some features despite the crummy sex scenes, not sure I can say the opposite. Although there are features with sketchier storylines or campy bad performances and technique that I still enjoy. The quality of the sex scenes in Spinelli's films is usually of a high caliber I find, although I've read things elsewhere that suggest he didn't put much effort into his sex scenes, sometimes letting others shoot them, can anyone confirm that? |

So, I am wondering if there are edited versions of this still out there? The Hen's Tooth version that you reviewed seems to be the complete version of the film. ---T0M--- |

I know it is widely thought that Bob Chinn directed these, has he ever confirmed it? They would rate pretty high in his filmography. |
