Something I hate in porn is when scenes are filmed with the performers in front of a horribly overexposed window. It's extremely ugly and harsh to look at and is photographically incompetent. The first scene from the first Anikka showcase with Anikka and Riley has some of the worst, ugliest and harshest photography I've ever seen, and the second scene is not much better. There are worse examples than this throughout the scene but due to the hardcore sex the images would not be OK to post. To avoid this it would be necessary to use additional lighting in the room to reduce the difference between the brightness outside and inside the room. Alternatively you could just avoid pointing the camera directly at the window. I know it's just porn and porn is about sex but I find it difficult to enjoy the sex when the image looks as ugly as this. It's extremely harsh on the eyes and very distracting. I'm certainly nowhere near the photography expert that Josh78 is but he is a very valid point that I've noticed over the last few years. It seems to be increasing with all the "softer" or couple oriented porn that is out these days. It does distract from the sexual intensity of the scenes.
I wouldn't really call myself a photography expert, although I am a filmmaker. I can see what Mason may have been trying to achieve in that scene and it would have looked great if the scenery outside was exposed correctly but it would actually be extremely difficult to capture it correctly. Mixing additional artificial light with the natural light would not be ideal either and I'm not sure if I could manage to shoot that successfully. I'd probably just opt for the "avoid pointing the camera directly at the window" option. I don't want to sound too harsh in my criticism though because a lot of Mason's photography is absolutely beautiful, especially during the tease sequences. I just recently watched Maddy and I think it's one of the best porn movies I've seen in years. One of the scenes also involves shooting near a window but the camera generally doesn't point directly at the window and it's handled much better generally. There are other Mason movies with overexposed backgrounds and I think some work and some don't. In the first DP Me movie the overexposure tends to be almost pure white, rather than overexposed scenery, and this looks more like a conscious artistic choice. I think it works pretty well in that movie. Some of the movies have white curtains over the bright windows and that works pretty well. I'm generally not all that keen on the very bright backgrounds in porn but in some cases it works better than others.

I think the effect you are discussing is on purpose and has never bothered me. I think the constant emphasis on flat lighting in most gonzo is incredibly boring, not that I'm saying that is what you're calling for. It's funny, there seems to be a general trend on the forum against what might be for lack of a better term be called, "the slut look."
