This was an excellent post by Rosco. Only two people know what truly happened but the court of public opinion has executed James. I think FlacFan better pump the brakes here.
There were, but many here are operating under the assumption that the accusations range from exaggerated to patently false. Of course, the statistics on rape reporting highlight that such a position is rather silly to take. But, that's where we are now unfortunately
^ Even if we were to use the loosest definition of the word, only 3 of the accusations are rape. The rest are either about him being an asshole, or about a consensually shot scene that may have gone too far. And one straight up assault. And for anyone saying that James is "getting away with it", he isn't, unless you think the only real punishment would be criminal. He's only shot maybe a handful of scenes since this story broke (honestly, I can only confirm 1, and that was a content trade). And this is someone who used to be able to shoot every single day if he wanted to. No major production company has shot him, and I don't see any lining up to do so. His career isn't over, because he still has his website, but it is a shell of what it once was.

To reiterate the point of this argument. You made wide comments about Feminists and Feminism as if all Feminists opposed all porn and ex workers. I said that Third Wave feminism tended to be more supportive of pornography and sex workers. You claimed this wasn't true and referenced the Wiki entry on Third Wave feminism where you claimed there was no reference to this stance. I responded that Wikipedia isn't an accurate or reliable source on politics. As a example of the limits of Wikipedia there is no section in the entry that addresses pornography or sex workers, however despite your claim it does mention these issues in an introductory paragraph and links to a semi-decent discussion under the heading of 'Sex wars.' So a very important point of contention between second andthird wave Feminists was so buried in the text you failed to see it. Typical of the amateur nature of Wikipedia. PS. An example of unexamined bias on Wikipedia is the paranoid attempt by one of the editors under the sex wars entry to connect the anti-pornography feminists to lesbianism. In fact the majority of prominent anti-porn feminists were straight, eg. Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinhem, whereas several of the most prominent pro-sex feminists were lesbian, eg. Pat Califa and Gayle Rubin.

^^ "Not working as much as he used to" is unequivocally getting away with it (if the allegations are true) If he's still not shooting anything this time next year, you might have a point but outside of a couple studios that publicly blacklisted him, everybody else appears to be waiting until the golden boy is bankable again before pretending it never happened and resuming business as usual. It happens all of the time in Hollywood and I see no reason why porn will be any different. It's not exactly an industry known for taking the high ground. If the industry was really done with him he wouldn't have been making red carpet arrivals at industry award shows. If you think he's career is going to be relegated to just shooting for his own site, I think you're extremely naive. Also there have been multiple accusations of assault. Not just one.
^ I'm not going to assume that "everything going back to normal" is going to happen until it actually starts happening. I do think that it's entirely possible that it does, but it hasn't yet, and there hasn't been any signs that it's going to soon. And he's not just "not shooting as much", he basically isn't shooting at all. Because he owns his own production company and website, if women are willing to work with him you're never going to be able to stop him from shooting porn at all, but, like I said, I've literally only seen one female performer say that she's worked with him after the accusation (and I remember hearing rumors that one other one did, also for his site). For him, shooting twice in two months isn't just not working as much, it's about as close as he's going to get to not shooting at all. And Tori Lux is the assault. I think most of what you might be considering assaults I either already count as rapes, or as scenes gone overboard (and I'm not trying to say that that's not a bad thing, but that it is different from rape/assault).

Yes i acknowledge the diference between pornstars thats what makes us like some more than others. Thats pretty obvious and i already acknowledged and agredd with that. I accept your point about "interchangeability" with expendability. I dont really have any depth of feeling towards any pornstar beyond how i react to their physicality (and their on-screen personality which is an extension of their sexually objectified pornstar persona - not anything to do with real life) and as such they are expendable - if my favourite of today leaves the biz , i really coudnt care , i will just watch another. I dont subscribe to any fan devotion to pornstars, pornstars are great but really im not going to be crying into my cornflakes when so and so retires. Does it make me a heartles sob that i dont have emotional attachment to pornstars ? Idk. personally i dont think so , personally i feel its perfectly normal. As cindy says men and women are different - and thats great.

Ok not the same thing. So are you saying that liking pornastars just for their bodies (reducing them to their body) is bad and Liking pornstars bodies and being interested in them as human beings is good. Which would basically equate to you being good and me being bad.

I understand what you were saying better Ben, I think the literalness of referring to performers and flesh and bone was what set most people off as it seemed to be denying the reality of the performers as people in real life. That doesn't seem to be your intent.

I guess it depends on how you read the tea leaves. I think his continuing participation in the industry is a pretty clear sign his career in porn isn't over.
Is his lull in shooting because he can't find work or because he's decided to shoot less for a while? I certainly haven't heard any rumors of him complaining that he can't get work. Regardless of what hairs you want to split with regards to him working less, it is still doesn't qualify as any sort of meaningful consequence for committing multiple rapes and sexual assaults. The context matters here. If he had to stop working because he stole $50 from some girl's purse on the set, then I'd say he didn't get away with it. If he had to stop working because he raped, assaulted, and abused multiple women, then yeah, I think that qualifies as getting away with it.
Stoya said, "James Deen held me down and fucked me while I said no, stop, used my safeword. I just can't nod and smile when people bring him up anymore." That's 1 rape accusation. An adult industry writer only identified as "T.M." told LAist that Deen forced oral sex on her and then had sex with her at a party at The Venetian during AVN Adult Entertainment Expo week in 2009. That's 2 rape accusations. Farrah Abraham said that she was drugged and raped by Deen. That's 3 rape accusations. Former adult performer Tori Lux alleged that Deen physically attacked her while working on an adult film in 2011, striking her "five or six times" in the face with his hand after she had explicitly said "no" to him. That's 1 assault accusation. Amber Rayne recounted the time Deen had punched and injured her on set That's 2 assault accusations. Nicki Blue alleged that Deen had urinated in her mouth and, along with Princess Donna, sexually assaulted her with a beer bottle when she was staying at Kink.com headquarters. That's 3 assault accusations. Lily LaBeau told Vocativ that during a Kink shoot, Deen attempted to use a cattle prod that was on LaBeau's list of prohibited acts and eventually slapped her so hard her jaw locked. That's 4 assault accusations. Miss Genocide claimed Deen was abusive on set and during one scene choked her to the point where she briefly lost consciousness. That's 5 assault accusations. Ashley Fires alleged Deen pushed his erection "into my butt" before she said no on a Kink.com set That's 1 sexual assault accusation. Kora Peters alleged that Deen violated her anally during a scene where it was not scripted and that the crew congratulated him afterwards. That's 2 sexual assault accusations. That said, trying to minimize it as only three rape accusations is mind blowing to me. One is too many.
Sex Positivism and feminist proponents of sex work and pornography were already being championed by 2nd wave feminists decades before 3rd wave feminism came about. To go back to my original point, 3rd wave feminism is largely squawking, although indeed there is a multitude of diverging expressions in it. But increasingly modern feminism is marked by nonsense to champion fake causes over fake issues like the gender pay gap. It is especially useless for female porn stars because in porn, the real gender pay gap is that men are only paid half of a third of what women are paid for the exact same work. It's just fucking. And women make much more from it. So this actually runs counter to the fundamental impetus for women's rights activists. The only interest modern feminists should have in porn should be campaigning for male performers to make more money. They're supposed to be for "equality" right?
I haven't followed this story very closely, but I knew there were multiple allegations– too many in fact for me to keep track of. I'm not saying, "Where there's smoke, there's fire". But that is an awful lot of smoke. I don't want to disparage any of his accusers, but one of these accusations seems different than the others. It more closely resembles the pattern of abuse that Bill Cosby has been accused of than the kind of behavior that James Deen has generally been accused of. Moreover, the person making the accusation is not really a porn actress, but is a C-list celebrity, who once made up a story about an "amateur" sex tape in order to use Deen's fame to climb up to the B-list.

I'm not saying you are heartless or anything of that sort. I'm simply trying to understand. Personally I don't think that having sentimental feelings about a pornstar is a necessary prerequisite for being disappointed about that pornstar's retirement. Someone entertains you. Yes? Then that person retires and you'll never receive any fresh entertainment from that person again. That doesn't disappoint you? If your answer is "no" you're not wrong, nor am I right. I'm just curious.

To be honest i dont really feel strongly enough about any porn stars to really consider any as favourites - so obviously im not going to feel disappointment or happiness whatever they do. I would feel sorrow if Rodney Moore got hit by lightening but for me most performers are just a succession of faces that come and go ad infinitum. Ive never seen a Stoya scene nor had i ever heard of her before this topic btw. As cindy recognises the difference in our attitudes and your dificulty in understanding why i think the way i do is probably originates in the natural difference between men and women. I remember someone (i cant remember who) once saying that it is mans nature to want to have sex just once with every female on the planet - whereas women want just one man. Meaning it is man instinct to graze sexualy without any emotion attachment at all and be constantly moving on to the next face . The same applies to porn . What i dont understand is this ; I completely understand why you feel the way you do - your opinions are consistent with how i would expect a normal woman to feel and i think women feeling the way they do is great , even though it is obviously very different from the way i feel. (Women are great) So when i can understand that women (you) feel the way you do - why cant you understant that men think differently and that i think the way i do ? And that its ok and normal to think the way i do.

^I don't see any reason to believe that this is a female/male issue, or that your views are representative of most men. I'd actually suggest that most male porn consumers have favorites and are not happy when those favorites retire. That doesn't mean that you are "wrong" to have your opinion, but most of the really devout, hardcore fans of individual women in porn that I've encountered are men. As for our natural differences, if you really believe that it's female nature to want just one partner then you don't know what you're talking about. Actually, monogamy has no relevance at all to the way I live and is not why I think differently than you. Like I said, I'm just trying to understand where you're coming from. What's "ok" and "normal" are different issues.

^ I disagree - from my experience guys watch porn sporadically on a fap by fap basis , latch onto whatever girl they like the best on the site where theyre lookin at and probably dont even know her name , and arnt interested in her name. In fact im the exception cos i am interested enough to identify the girls in the porn i watch - most guys dont take it that seriously. Most guys arnt really devout, hardcore fans of individual women. As for our diferences iiuc they remain that you like pornstars bodies and are interested in them as human beings and are disappointed when they retire. Whereas i like pornastars just for their bodies and am not disappointed when they retire. Are you any closer to understanding where im coming from ? I have no problem with you feeling the way you feel . i think your being invested in certain porn characters is fine - hopefully you have no problem with me feeling the way i feel.

^I don't think you're distinguishing between men who pay for porn and men who don't, while I am only concerning myself with the prior. As for the latter group, I haven't watched pirated content on a tube site in at least 4 years, but I do remember that when a pornstar's name wasn't mentioned in a video title or tag, many of the comments in response were "What's her name?" and "Who is she?" When a pornstar's name was included, comments often spoke of enjoying that pornstar's work or wanting to see more of her work. I wasn't suggesting that most men are hardcore fans of individual pornstars, but that most hardcore fans of individual pornstars are men. In responding to the rest of your comment I'd just be repeating myself. So I'll just conclude my side of our exchange by saying that while I still don't really understand your view (there is no obvious link between "i like pornastars just for their bodies" and "(I) am not disappointed when they retire"), but I thank you for taking the time to have this discussion with me anyway.
WhatsAPhoneBill, where are you getting your sources that James isn't working as much? I talked to numerous girls over the weekend that have worked with him recently and actually talked to James himself.

Ok well its dispappointing that you still dont seem to have reconciled the fact that guys just like watching porn (naked chicks) without any additional interest in the performers or feelings of regret when they retire. Remember guys used to jack off to porno mags and theres no emotional connection to girls in porno mags so i dont see why all of a sudden were expected to start establishing emotional connections with those to whom we fap off to. it just dosnt make sense. But it was a pleasure discussing the subject with you nevertheless misspo.
Yes, because there are still plenty of women still in and OUT of the industry who want to be with him. That shows clearly right there that plenty of people have emotional and mental issues to deal with. Doing it for a living is one thing, but those women who can afford to turn down work with him should be doing so. I was listening to an interview with Ava Devine earlier and in it there was a reference to pseudo "Intervention" type episode done on her. The interview told the listeners where to find the video clip. So I go to the site and I am watching it. One of the ads on this page is some clip of a woman basically getting "rough sex" from ... James Deen. It fucking continues!!!! I remember when the Michael Jackson trail came out. I didn't hear his songs on the radio for YEARS!!! But for some reason everywhere the eye can see there are ads, clips, pictures, and all sorts of things for this piece of individual. Rape allegations are beyond enough in the minds and hearts of many. But apparently for the industry to take a step back and say "we're not going to prompt a possible rapist any longer" is going to take some assurance that they won't somehow lose money. That's the only rational for companies not PUBLICALLY coming out and releasing statements about no long working with him. I've said it on countless occasions. If he is innocent he should be screaming his innocence from the mountaintop! Not only this but there should be plenty of people not only saying they'll never work with him again along with pulling his scenes, where applicable, from their website and/or movies. This isn't happening and if it doesn't the same "blame the victim" mentality will continue to be seen in the industry.

I'm going to be honest and say that my sources primary consist of social media, because most performers (male and female) don't do a very good job of keeping their shot scenes a secret. If I'm wrong and he's been working for other companies often and everyone is keeping it under wraps, then I would be happy to revise my position to be closer in line to murdock's. And correct me if I'm wrong on this as well, but his only participation are AVN and Xbiz has been attending the awards show of both, where in both instances his girlfriend was nominated for female performer of the year. Neither he nor Chanel were signing at AVN, and I don't think he was part of any panels at Xbiz.
Did he attend the award ceremony? I saw Chanel tweeted out pictures from her table and was upset that they had annexed her near the very back of the room

Of course I understood what you wanted to say Ben but Damn man... if Stoya or any other pornstar happens to read these very lines wont be very happy. Anyway in other words what you want to say can be like this: Is better a viewer to be detached from the personal life of the starlet in order to enjoy porn, because if he starts digging the backstage of the industry he might not like what he will find. Someone can also add that the porn biz is a part of the entertainment industry and every scene is a show. As smart viewers, we have to realize the distinction between porn and reality and stick to the on screen performances, letting the personal gossips for the social scavengers. It seems that in this thread lots of intriguing confesses are dropped on the table. So I wont make the difference. Well, my friend, if I personally didn't follow this mentality until now I wouldn't watch porn or even post here at all. You see... (sighs) I was very close to become an insider and I knew a girl that she wanted to perform there. In fact, I was the reason for doing that. And... she was the reason I didnt become an insider and I don't think I ever will. I am not gonna say more except this: "When things go out of control you better stop!" And I really believe that this is what happened to our dear friend James Deen. Therefore, you understand that although I am following this mentality, I am a little bit more sensitive to these kind of matters, a lot more than many others. Now, I don't think that the landscape behind the industry is totally black. The vast majority of the insiders do care about their female performers and no matter how kinky or hard is the theme that is portrayed in each scene, there is excessive professionalism, control, caution and mutual understanding. Yet, occasionally things go out of control and ... this eventually has bad implications. Now, there are viewers who give more importance to specific sexual actions, not caring about the performer. Yet the vast majority of them, including myself, we favor certain starlets and follow their careers. For some strange reason we get attached to them because we believe that they have something different than all the others. And I say strange because it is not easy to explain it. You might say that we are sexually hungry... and I will tell you that I am blessed with a long and passionate relation and my sexual life is more than fine. Yes it is porn, yes they are just strange women they get paid to have sex, probably they don't give a dime about any of us, but we don't care. Because we are privileged to absorb the beauty of their faces when we see them smile. And I can tell you it goes beyond beauty, as we learn more and more about them. And with the booming of social media and the ability we have to direct communicate with them, that bond became stronger. These persons are special for us and somehow we become addicted to them. We just want to keep seeing them. I, lately had this "bond" with a model called Staci Carr (a very beautiful, elegant and charismatic creature) but it didn't last long because for an unknown reason she was suddenly retired and deleted her Twitter account (I wish I could warn her about many things, unfortunately I didn't manage to do it in time). Now, that was one more reason to be pissed off with what is going on behind the stages and start posting here.
About Stoya... besides the fact that she is one of the most beautiful women ever exposed in show biz (including mainstream, singers, fashion models etc..) is a lot more than that. She is a fascinating personality. She is incredibly clever, witty, cultured, sweet and romantic. She is not just a performer. Stoya represents an entire sexual philosophy. Stoya was a rebel. She attempted to change the fabric of the industry herself. She wanted to cut the strings of scripted performance and reintroduce to the public the real, the pure joy of sex. And she deserves every respect for that, no matter if she succeed or not. That's why I don't want her vision to fade. That's why I don't want her voice to shut. That's why I still want to see her charming smile. Because it is fucking.. REAL.

Btw I dunno if someone mentioned earlier but this is an interesting article to read... Stoya... About James I really don't think he is a monster. Otherwise Stoya wouldn't date him at first place. When he is not pretending Christian Grey and tries to break a girls feminism, he is a wonderful male performer, he can be tender and erotic and the industry needs his cock. But James, you have to decipher women better. I know you fucked a lot and became blur for you to discrete their messages. But they are not all the same and sometimes No it means No. I am sorry James, although I want to be objective and try not interfere with someone else's relation, it seems that you fucked up and you better do something to fix it. It is not easy but you can do it. I know how you feel because I fucked up too making stupid assumptions about women behavior in the past, but at least I managed to fixed it. Meanwhile... ^ Read that before. He's trying to play it off, acting like nothing happened. If it's me I come out swinging to defend myself, he's doing nothing. He is either guilty as hell or getting some very bad advice. From Said Story: When the story broke, said Arabelle Raphael, a porn performer who told me she had followed it very closely, “It was a big relief. Finally, someone had put it out there.” The porn scene isn’t all that huge, and this was especially close to home, she told me. Back in 2010, Raphael had done her first scene in porn with James Deen. Some years later, one of her close friends in the industry told her Deen had assaulted her. “People knew,” Raphael said. “A lot of people knew. I don’t think everyone knew. And some people had really good experiences with him, but that doesn’t mean anything.” Performers let each other know what they had heard about Deen, she said. “I remember getting ready for my first gang bang, and I was talking to people – what should I know, I’ve never done this before, I was really nervous, do you have any tips? And two people were like: put James Deen on your ‘no’ list” – the performers she would not do scenes with. “I was proud of her,” porn performer Sydney Leathers told me, after reading Stoya’s tweets. “That’s a bold thing to do.” Leathers started performing in porn not long after the press outed her as the sexting partner of then US congressman Anthony Weiner. When she got into the business, she was advised about Deen, too, she said. At a convention in 2013, Leathers spoke with porn performer and producer Joanna Angel. “I remember one specific sentence she said: ‘He likes to try to break women.’ I found that troubling. And I knew that Joanna was serious. He’s always been on my ‘no’ list for that reason.” In the few days since Stoya’s tweets, eight other women have also gone public. Tori Lux, Ashley Fires, Amber Rayne, Kora Peters, Nicki Blue, Lily LaBeau, and a woman writing as T.M., all say Deen has assaulted them, too. Get Well Stoya, It's The only Thing That Matters. Boycott studios that use James Deen
Since FlacFan is such an expert in such matters and has been on set with James Deen, I ask you this. What could he ever possibly say to defend himself against these charges? He can't say a damn thing.
Again, only 2 people know what happened on that day. Oops, 3, because FlacFan was there. I'm not giving an opinion one way or another because I'll admit I wasn't there.

The truth is that no matter how much he denied it (the Stoya accusation), there is/was going to be a large section of people who wouldn't believe him, because he would never be able to prove he didn't do it. And then there's the fact that we absolutely know he did do some of the other things he's been accused of (Lily Labeau as one specific example with corroborating witnesses). If he kept shouting his innocence over and over, the main thing it would do is keep the story (and all the accusations surrounding it) in the news, which is one thing he definitely doesn't want. Attempting to let this whole thing blow over (which is what his strategy seems to be right now) is a valid way to fight this, and we'll see if it works over the next couple months or so.

Questions for you. What is your endgame here? Why are you constantly preaching to a bunch of people basically mocking you and who could care less about your opinion of this guy. You've heard of the expression, "falling on deaf ears" haven't you? What are you not instead maybe calling up and constantly harassing, or maybe standing outside the studios with a placard protesting, the providers of the Deen product instead of droning on and on here?

That's not what publicists do. If you think that's what publicists do, you don't know what publicists do. Since you said that's what you were expecting his publicists to do, I stand by my claim that you don't know what publicists do. Oh and he seems to be getting along just fine despite your boycott so I'd say his publicists are doing a fine job.
came across this: http://www.studlife.com/news/campus-events/2013/02/11/adult-stars-answer-questions-about-porn/ A couple of noteworthy things: 1.) that Deen has (or perhaps had until now) the notariety and popularity to be a spokesman for the industry and 2.) that he is (in his own twisted way) proud of the fact that he tied a woman to a water tower and, perhaps, threatened to leave her for the critters. Reminiscent of the time Jim Brown (no slouch in the misogynist category) bragged about an incident where he threw a woman up the stairs. I'm out...

I wasn't doing it to hurt him, I was doing it to feel good about the choices I make for myself. If you can feel good about supporting him great, I hear Cosby is struggling selling tickets, why not support him by buying a few. Boycott studios that use James Deen

^ i'm not supporting him in any way shape or form. I'm acknowledging the reality that he's pretty much gotten away with what he's done (at the very least being an extraordinarily shitty human being and at the worst an abusive rapist) and that is likely in part to having a PR team and publicist at his disposal. I don't deny reality just because I don't like it. you should try it out sometime.

^ Because he has a publicist and a PR team at his disposal. I thought we covered that already. Just because your first instinct is to go out and do the worst possible thing doesn't mean everyone else should too.

Um Remy, these "allegations" wouldn't be so ridiculous if you'd been on the receiving end. Boycott studios that use James Deen

^^Between that and the treatment of Chanel, it doesn't really sound like the industry is any closer to welcoming back James Deen. I don't think it's unreasonable for Remy to regard the accusations as ridiculous. She knows James Deen and has worked with him. Her view hasn't changed my mind, but we certainly shouldn't pretend that it's outrageous and uncalled for for her to think differently.
